Inglourious Basterds Teaser Takes No Prisoners…Only Scalps!
Ladies and Gentlemen, watch this while I change my shorts:
Now, if you need a moment to clean yourself up, by all means, I can wait. Everyone else, lets discuss what we have just seen.
Quentin Tarantino has made a war movie in the vein of a spaghetti western. This is not about the strength of men on D-Day or the valiant efforts of the South Pacific battles. This is a no holds barred action film about killing Nazis in the most brutal ways possible. This is a film about Jewish-Americans getting revenge on their persecutors. This is a revenge movie, a battle movie, a war movie, an action movie. But, above all. this is a Tarantino movie.
I am glad that Brad Pitt is the biggest mainstream name in this movie. While having a bunch of big stars would have been cool, it would also have distracted the eye from the sheer brilliance Tarantino is bringing to the genre. Now, I am not a big war movie buff but I do have some favorites.
TOP 5 WAR MOVIES
1) Dr Strangelove
2) The Thin Red Line (Malick Version)
3) Glory
4) Kingdom of Heaven (Director’s Cut)
5) Saving Private Ryan
Now, what we have coming to our screens in fast (August…hot damn!) fashion is a new breed of WWII movie. Lets see what Tarantino can do with his typical aesthetic in a setting totally different than what he has tackled thus far.
I for one already have my time slotted for this one!
